Deputy CMs, Ministers to Fund Own Newspaper Subscriptions

GAD to Stop Supplying Newspapers and Periodicals to ministrial office

Mumbai, July 30: The Maharashtra government has decided to discontinue the supply of newspapers and periodicals to the offices and official residences of Deputy Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, and Ministers of State through the General Administration Department (GAD) from September 1, 2026.

According to a Government Resolution, the existing newspaper supply arrangement for the Chief Minister’s office and official residence will continue, with the expenditure being borne by the GAD as before.

Under the new system, Deputy Chief Ministers, Ministers, and Ministers of State will be required to procure newspapers and periodicals through online subscriptions. The subscription bills will be submitted to their respective administrative departments, which will clear the payments from their allotted office expenditure budgets. The government said the move shifts the responsibility for newspaper procurement and related expenses to the concerned departments.
