Mumbai, June 3: The Election Commission of India has announced that polling for one vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Maharashtra will be held on June 18, 2026. The vacancy arose following the resignation of Rajya Sabha member Sunetra Ajit Pawar.
The new member will be elected by the members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
The last date for filing nominations is June 8, 2026. Nomination papers will be accepted at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai, between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the prescribed dates. Scrutiny of nominations will take place at 12:00 noon on June 9, 2026, at Vidhan Bhavan.
Candidates may withdraw their nominations until 3:00 p.m. on June 11, 2026. If the election is contested, voting will be conducted on June 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Meghna Talekar, Secretary-2 of the Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat, has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the election. Mohan Kakade, Deputy Secretary, and Suresh Mogal, Under Secretary, will serve as Assistant Returning Officers.
