Maharashtra Legislative Council Inducts New Members; Ten Legislators Sworn In During Ceremony at Vidhan Bhavan

Mumbai | May 14, 2026: The Maharashtra Legislative Council marked a significant administrative milestone today as ten newly elected members were formally inducted during a high profile swearing-in ceremony held at the Central Hall of Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai.

In an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm the Chairman of the Legislative Council Prof. Ram Shinde administered the oath of office and secrecy to the incoming legislators officially marking the commencement of their terms.

The event was attended by a distinguished assembly of the state’s top political leadership, highlighting the importance of the upper house in the state’s governance.

Among the prominent dignitaries present were Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar.

The ceremony also saw the attendance of Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil, and Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, alongside MLA Ravindra Chavan and several other senior officials.

The cohort of ten members who took the oath represents a diverse cross-section of the state’s political landscape featuring seasoned leaders and prominent opposition figures.

The group includes Dr. Neelam Gorhe, the Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council, and notable figures such as farmer leader Bacchu Kadu and Ambadas Danve, a key voice in the opposition.

Other members sworn in today were Dr. Pragya Satav, Pramod Jathar, Zeeshan Siddique, Madhavi Naik, Sunil Karjatkar, Vivek Kolhe, and Sanjay Bhende. Following the formal proceedings, Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde extended a warm welcome to each of the newly inducted members with traditional bouquets. In his congratulatory remarks, he emphasized the critical role of the Legislative Council in the state’s democratic framework.

He urged the new members to maintain a people-oriented approach and encouraged them to play an active, constructive role in the upcoming parliamentary proceedings to ensure the effective representation of the citizens of Maharashtra.
