After completing his MBA in Sydney in 2002, Nayan Shah returned to India with a burning desire to create something of his own. Though his family owned a wires and cables manufacturing business in Ahmedabad, Nayan was determined to carve his own path.
In 2005, fueled by ambition and entrepreneurial spirit, Nayan launched his first venture – Current Energy Drink. Inspired by the global success of Red Bull, Nayan introduced an indigenously made energy drink, investing ₹2 Cr into the idea with his former boss as a partner. Despite initial success, challenges arose as sales dwindled due to stiff competition and changing consumer preferences.
Undeterred by setbacks, Nayan pivoted his focus to bottled water, identifying a pressing need for clean drinking water among Indian consumers. In 2010, Clear was founded under Energy Beverages Private Limited, with Nayan at the helm.
Recognizing the importance of branding and differentiation, Nayan strategically targeted the premium segment and invested in premium packaging and branding. Securing contracts with major airlines and hotels, Clear rapidly gained traction in the market, selling over 25 lakh bottles per day.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic posed unforeseen challenges as Clear’s revenue heavily relied on the hospitality industry. Despite the setbacks, Nayan remained resilient, pivoting the business towards retail sales, and establishing a robust online presence.
Today, Clear stands as a testament to Nayan’s unwavering determination and entrepreneurial vision. With revenues exceeding ₹250 Cr in FY23, Nayan Shah is now setting his sights on even greater milestones, aiming to achieve ₹1000 Cr by 2025-2026.
