ED Director Rahul Navin Granted One-Year Extension

Mumbai: The Central Government has extended the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin by one year, allowing him to serve in the position until August 13, 2027. The extension was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel.

Rahul Navin, a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, initially took charge as the full-time ED Director on August 14, 2024. Under governing rules, an ED Director receives an initial two-year term, which can be extended by one year at a time for up to three years.

Under his leadership, the ED took decisive action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against real estate firms allegedly defrauding home buyers, focusing on restoring funds to victims.

An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and Swinburne University in Australia, Navin possesses over three decades of experience in the Income Tax Department, specializing in international taxation. He previously served in key positions within the International Taxation Division in Mumbai, worked as Commissioner of Transfer Pricing, and completed two stints at the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). After joining the ED in 2019 as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and later as Special Director (Headquarters), he became the Acting Director in September 2023 prior to his full-time appointment in August 2024.
