Salman Khan Moves Delhi HC Over ‘Kala Hiran’ Matter

Did the controversial film go too far?

The controversy over ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ has taken a shocking turn, as reports suggest that Salman Khan has gone all the way to the Delhi High Court to stop the movie’s release before more momentum builds.

According to reports, Bollywood’s superstar has filed an urgent stay on production, promotion, and release, claiming it infringes on his personality and publicity rights. The legal move comes just days after Khan’s legal team reportedly issued notice to makers stating that they will have to remove all promotional material and cease the project altogether.

What makes the dispute particularly intriguing is the subject matter of Kala Hiran. The film is presumed to be based on the long-running blackbuck poaching case associated with Salman Khan since 1998. Currently, reports are surfacing that have been filed with the petition, alleging that the project spotlights some issues that target him directly, including the supposed use of a lookalike character and visual elements with his out-of-the-box style.

For a few weeks, there’s been chatter in the entertainment industry about the legality of the movie, Kala Hiran. The topic has become one of the most talked-about matters, specifically in the media as well as in the courts, and has also generated a considerable amount of speculation over the upcoming release of this film based on these creative rights and identity issues.

For Salman Khan, the stakes are greater than just one film. Due to the nature of his profession and the length of time that he has been active, there is potential for the public persona he has developed during this period to become damaged due to the content of this movie and the possible repercussions that could have a negative impact on him personally in the future.

While the High Court is likely to address the issues that were raised in the case, whether “Kala Hiran” will be able to come to theatres or will have one of the largest amounts of debate in Bollywood history around how this film was made will remain to be seen until after the court’s ruling.

For the uninitiated, Kala Hiran became the topic of discussion since last month when the makers released the film’s poster. According to reports, the film is said to be inspired by the blackbuck poaching case involving Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and has elements of courtroom drama along with a crime thriller. It is also said that the film will explore the conflict between Salman and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
