“Modi hai to Mumkin hai”: Akash Ambani at ITU

At the ITU World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (ITUWTSA 2024) in Delhi, Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his administration for fostering a unique collaboration between government and industry. “In New India, in Modiji’s India, there is no more business as usual. There’s an unusual synergy between government and industry to deliver world-class services to satisfy the needs and expectations of 1.45 billion Indians,” he stated.

Ambani expressed gratitude for Modi’s connection with the youth, inspiring them to pursue ambitious goals. “As we say in Hindi, ‘Modi hai toh mumkin hai’,” he added, emphasizing the positive impact of government initiatives on business.

Addressing the event further, Ambani stressed the need for India to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) with a comprehensive strategy. He asserted that Indian data should be stored in local data centers and urged the government to expedite updates to the Data Centre Policy 2020 draft. “The scale and speed of multilingual data generation in India, which will drive the AI revolution, will grow exponentially. We request the government to expedite the updating of the 2020 draft of the Data Centre Policy,” he stated.

Ambani characterized AI as a “revolutionary tool” poised to transform sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, and manufacturing. He advocated for incentives for Indian companies that wish to establish AI and machine learning data centers, including subsidies for power consumption.

Akash Ambani took over as the head of Reliance Jio Infocomm in June 2022, following the resignation of his father, Mukesh Ambani. Since then, he has emphasised the importance of innovation and leadership in driving the company and the country forward, echoing the vision of his grandfather, Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries.
