In a bold feat of engineering, Samsonite’s Proxis suitcase recently returned to Earth unscathed after enduring a rigorous test of strength, resilience, and cutting-edge innovation. This suitcase, priced at $425 (approximately Rs 35,735), has gained widespread attention following its unique endurance test, in which it was launched to an altitude of 130,000 feet and plummeted back, making a dramatic wheels-first landing on a mountainside near Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Proxis suitcase’s resilience is due to its advanced features, including a self-deploying parachute system that ensured a controlled descent. Samsonite crafted the Proxis with an outer shell made from Roxkin, a groundbreaking material that balances strength with lightness. Roxkin’s unique, multilayered structure is fully recyclable and engineered to “bounce back” after impacts, making the suitcase virtually indestructible despite its weight of only 4.6 pounds.
This ambitious test was conducted in collaboration with Sent Into Space, a specialized marketing agency known for launching products into extreme environments. The agency has a history of testing everything from kitchen appliances to children’s toys by sending them into the upper atmosphere. Their partnership with Samsonite adds an impressive milestone to their portfolio, showcasing the Proxis’s resilience and Samsonite’s unwavering commitment to quality.
