If Thailand has long been on your travel wishlist, 2025 just gave you one more reason to pack your bags. The country’s tourism board has announced an exciting giveaway: thousands of free domestic flight tickets for international tourists, including Indians. The aim is simple: encourage visitors to explore beyond Bangkok and Phuket, spreading tourism benefits to lesser-known regions and helping tackle overcrowding in the usual hot spots.

What’s It All About?

Think of it as Thailand’s way of saying “Sawadee” to tourists looking to explore places off the beaten track. Instead of everyone jostling for space in Phuket or waiting hours in Bangkok’s Grand Palace queues, the government wants to showcase underrated gems like Chiang Mai in the north, the beaches of Krabi, or temple towns in Isan. Offering free flights makes that easier on your travel budget and encourages cultural exchange in regions that often get overlooked.

It is also a clever move to make travel smoother for tourists who may be hesitant to spend on multiple internal flights. By taking cost off the table for at least one leg of your trip, or at the very least subsidising it, Thailand is making exploration both affordable and adventurous.

Who Qualifies?

Good news for Indian travellers, as these free flight tickets are available to international tourists who book a trip to Thailand during the campaign period. There is no age restriction, so it works whether you are a solo backpacker, a family on vacation, or a couple on a honeymoon.

The only conditions are that you must already have an international flight booked into Thailand (no cruises!) and that you register through the official tourism channels. This ensures the program is fair and the tickets are distributed to genuine travellers.

How to Get Your Tickets

Here’s the step-by-step:

  1. Plan your Thailand trip: First, book your international flights and secure your visa if required. Indians currently enjoy visa-on-arrival access for short visits, which makes entry even smoother.
  1. Register online: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is running the giveaway campaign through its official website and selected airline partners. Keep an eye out for the signup link or QR codes shared by Thai tourism offices.
  1. Choose your domestic route: Once registered, you may be asked to indicate your preferred domestic destination from a list of participating cities. Popular options include Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Krabi, and Surat Thani.
  1. Receive confirmation: Lucky travellers will get a ticket voucher via email. This can be redeemed directly with the partnering airline.
  1. Fly and explore: Once in Thailand, simply check in with your voucher and enjoy your free journey to another side of the country.

Why This Matters

For travellers, this is an invitation to go beyond the predictable itinerary and discover another layer of Thai culture, cuisine, and landscapes. A few extra days in Chiang Mai’s night markets or Krabi’s limestone cliffs could be the highlight of your trip. Plus, the money you save on flights can be spent on food tours, temple visits, or even that long-tail boat ride you’ve been eyeing.

So if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to book Thailand, this is it. Not only do you get the warmth of Thai hospitality, now you also get a free flight to keep your adventure going.
