Jageshwar, Uttarakhand, the second edition of Nakshatra Sabha, an Astro Tourism campaign launched by Starscapes in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Tourism Board, took place from October 4th to 6th. Following the success of its inaugural event at George Everest in Mussoorie earlier this year, this event attracted astronomy enthusiasts, adventurers, and travelers from across India.
The event was inaugurated by esteemed scientists Shylaja B and Dr. T V Venkateswaran. Shylaja, a prominent astronomer known for her deep knowledge of Indian astronomical history and celestial phenomena, and Dr. Venkateswaran, a senior scientist at Vigyan Prasar, with over two decades of experience in science communication, kicked off the celebrations by making complex scientific concepts accessible to the public.
Nakshatra Sabha is part of a year-long campaign running until mid-2025, featuring a series of immersive experiences in dark sky locations throughout Uttarakhand. Upcoming events are planned for unique spots such as Benital, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and the famed Kartiswamy temple in Rudraprayag. Each location is carefully selected to highlight the distinctive characteristics of the region. Jageshwar, with its rich heritage and spiritual significance, serves as a perfect backdrop for this event.
Nestled in the picturesque hills of Uttarakhand, Jageshwar is celebrated for its historic temples, with over 100 ancient structures dedicated to Lord Shiva and various deities. The temples, constructed in the Nagara architectural style, are set against a stunning backdrop of dense deodar forests and the tranquil Jataganga river, creating an atmosphere that is both serene and mystical.
