Varun Dhawan set to lead YRF’s first-ever horror film; Details inside 

Yash Raj Films is treading upon unexplored land. After decades of producing movies across romance, action and spy thriller genres, the film production house is all set to come up with its first-ever horror movie. As per reports, Varun Dhawan will be starring in the movie that is being directed by Abhay Pannu of Rocket Boys fame.  

It is said that the un-named horror film has been development for quite some time with Pannu taking charge as director/ writer of the film. This marks a major turn in the history of YRF as the film production company has largely stayed away from the horror genre for the last 50 years. 

A source close to the project told Bollywood Hungama, “Varun has come on board as the lead for YRF’s first horror film. Yash Raj Films (YRF) is entering the horror genre for the first time with a feature film directed by Abhay Pannu, strategically championed by Akshaye Widhani, and now headlined by Varun Dhawan as the lead. YRF have made films across almost every genre except horror. Come 2027, and the banner will finally step into this genre.” 

Casting Varun Dhawan seems to be the right move. The actor has already earned accolades for his film Bhediya, a supernatural flick that has comedy, action and horror elements. The film is expected to be a success because of the association between YRF and Dhawan. 

The creators of the film have not released the exact details about its plot, but the reports indicate that a large-scale theatrical experience rather than a conventional horror outing. The reports further state that the makers would be starting production this year, and they are busy finalising the other key cast. 

YRF is known to explore genres beyond its successful established franchises. On the other hand, Varun is adding diversity to his filmography by working on a mix of commercial projects as well as genre films. If the reports are accurate, then this venture will become one of the most awaited films for the audience in the near future.
