Alpha trailer review: Alia Bhatt and Sharvari bring the fire, but Hrithik Roshan’s surprise entry changes everything

The trailer of Alpha arrives with a clear message: the YRF Spy Universe is no longer just a boys’ club.

Alpha marks a shift in the spy franchise where, for years, we have seen larger-than-life spies such as Pathaan, Tiger and Kabir who have dominated; now Alpha puts two women at the center of the action, and if the trailer is anything to go by, Alia Bhatt and Sharvari look more than ready to carry that responsibility.

What surprises me most is how committed Alia appears (both physically & mentally) to being an agent – she’s clearly grown into a different type of leading actress from what we’ve seen of her in other movies at this point. The intensity in her body language and the sharpness of the action choreography is really impressive and depicts someone who is a very well-trained spy. This time, Alia isn’t just relying on her star power to sell this character; she completely embodies a physically demanding role as well.

Sharvari, meanwhile, leaves a strong impression despite sharing the spotlight with one of the industry’s biggest stars. She will not only shine alongside someone as famous as Alia but also do so without feeling like she is second fiddle. The film appears to position her as an equal force within the mission, as her character dynamic could potentially be Alpha’s biggest strength.

The story itself seems to blend espionage with personal stakes. Without revealing too much, the trailer indicates a dangerous mission associated with a secret program and the complicated mentor & student relationship. Bobby Deol appears to play an integral part in the franchise. Deol’s performance has a commanding presence, and the unpredictability of his character raises curiosity about his role in the story (whether he will mentor and be a villain or something in between). He is easily one of the most intriguing mysteries of the trailer.

On the other hand, Anil Kapoor provides a gravitas to the project; even in limited glimpses, he carries himself as an authority figure who is holding together the larger operation. Kapoor’s character appears to have a significant level of influence over everything that happens, so it’s possible he’s the narrative’s strategic backbone.

Much of the credit should go to director Shiv Rawail; he’s done well with creating tension in The Railway Men and has now followed suit by preparing to step into one of Bollywood’s most successful cinematic universes. The trailer seems to confirm he will be able to achieve the tension and spectacle that audiences expect from a spy-thriller, and the emotion behind the explosions gives hope.

The highlight about Alpha is Hrithik Roshan appearing as Kabir. It is a very brief moment but raises the excitement for the overall film quite a bit. This does not feel like an arbitrary cameo; it seems planned to connect Alpha deeper into the overall Spy Universe. The reaction online makes sense; Kabir’s presence signals that the stakes are much bigger than one mission and that the paths of these characters are likely headed toward a major collision course in future films.

Overall, Alpha looks ambitious, stylish, and surprisingly centred on character. The action is slick, the scale is huge, and the mix of Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, and a perfectly timed appearance by Hrithik Roshan makes this one of the most exciting trailers the YRF Spy Universe has released in a long time.
