Kiran Rao, the creative force behind ‘Laapataa Ladies,’ spilled the beans on how she fully leverages Aamir Khan’s star power to boost her film’s visibility.

In a recent interview, she playfully revealed, “I fully use his star power wherever I can. I am like, you’re here, please stand and give us three pictures. Because we have a small film, and I really need to do everything I can to tell people, ;Dekhiye 1 March ko ye film aaraha hai jo Aamir Khan ne banaya hai.’ I use him shamelessly.”

After a break of 14 years since her directorial debut with ‘Dhobi Ghat,’ Kiran Rao is back with ‘Laapataa Ladies.’ During a media chat, she delved into her journey, the process of self-discovery through storytelling.

The heart of ‘Laapataa Ladies’ beats in sync with Kiran Rao’s personal journey. The film revolves around two rural brides entangled in a web of swapped veils. Rao unravels shared human experiences through the trials faced by women dealing with diverse life challenges. Inspired by Biplab Goswami’s story, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ struck a chord with Rao, providing an avenue to explore a spectrum of situations and issues encountered by women.

Born into a progressive family, Rao acknowledges her privilege in making personal choices. While ‘Laapataa Ladies’ tackles issues within the institution of marriage, Rao makes it clear that the film isn’t anti-marriage. Instead, it encourages women to discover spaces for themselves. Her lens is empathetic, addressing patriarchy without singling out any particular gender. Drawing inspiration from real-life stories, Rao is surrounded by the narratives of women and their struggles.

Get ready to be enchanted by this unique cinematic journey releasing on March 1, crafted with love, empathy, and a dash of Bollywood stardust.
