After 36 years in operation, #MTVNews, the popular news division of American Cable Network, #MTV will cease operations this week.
According to CNN, this move brings to an end the iconic music video network’s news division, which once covered a range of issues from pop culture to politics and became a household name for Generation X and Millennial teenagers.
The news division was shuttered as part of a larger round of layoffs that saw MTV and Showtime’s domestic staff cut by nearly 25%, according to an internal note to employees from #ChrisMcCarthy, president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.
