In an exclusive interview with Marksmen Daily correspondent Neeraj Tiwari, Sunny Singh, the founder of Special You, a decoration company, discussed his journey from celebrating a friend’s birthday to building a multi-crore venture.

Here’s a glimpse of the interview.

Q: Mr. Sunny Singh, thank you for joining us. Could you share with our readers the journey of your startup, Special You, and how it transformed into a multi-crore venture?

SS: It’s a pleasure to be here, Neeraj. Special You started as a simple idea to celebrate my friend’s birthday in a unique way. The response we received encouraged us to keep going. We focused on building a strong team, delegating tasks effectively, and staying aligned with our vision. Over time, we grew into a multi-crore venture by prioritizing customer satisfaction and managing our finances prudently.

Q: What do you believe is the most crucial soft skill for a business leader?

A: People management is paramount. Regardless of your industry, success hinges on your team. Building a competent team, assigning them the right roles, and aligning them with the company’s vision are essential.

Q: In your opinion, what distinguishes a good leader from a great one?

A: Empathy. It’s vital to listen to your team and make them feel valued and heard. While you may not have all the answers, showing that you care fosters a positive work environment and encourages your team to perform at their best.

Q: How do you navigate hyper-growth in your company?

A: Customer reviews are key. Customer satisfaction is paramount to sustained growth. Monitoring metrics like repeat customer rate, feedback, and conversion rate helps us stay focused on meeting our customers’ needs.

Q: What, in your experience, is the toughest phase for any startup?

A: Cash flow management is critical. Cash is the lifeblood of any business, and it’s crucial to spend every penny wisely, whether you’re bootstrapping or funded by investors.

Q: How do you view the startup atmosphere in India?

A: India offers a conducive environment for startups. With affordable manpower, a diverse population, and increasing consumerism, there’s ample opportunity for new brands. The government’s support through various programs further enhances the startup ecosystem.

Q: What motivated you to start your business, and what keeps you going?

A: I started Special You as a side hustle and experiment, but the positive feedback from our customers motivated us to continue. Their satisfaction is our driving force.

Q: Do you have a message for the startup community?

A: I would say, always give your ideas a chance, and when you do, give it your all. The effort is always worth it.

Q: Finally, what are your plans for the future of Special You?

A: Our vision is to evolve Special You into a special community where people can find all solutions to make their loved ones feel special, whether it’s a special occasion or just an ordinary day.
