In the heart of Mumbai’s bustling slums Mankhurd, Govandi, Ghatkopar, Matunga, and Wadala, where struggles are routine and opportunities rare, a quiet transformation is unfolding, changing lives in ways that truly matter. Khushiyon Ki Paatshala, an initiative by the Enrich Lives Foundation (ELF), is giving children more than just an education, it’s giving them hope.
A Safe Space For Growth
For many kids in these areas, education isn’t just about going to school, it’s a daily battle. Even though schools are available, they lack the means to offer high-quality education, and their families are struggling to make ends meet. The task of teaching these young brains is made more difficult by a shortage of teachers and volunteers.
Nevertheless, the kids are still keen to learn in spite of these obstacles. They arrive each day with notebooks in hand and eyes filled with determination. The volunteers and teachers of Khushiyon Ki Paatshala empower people in addition to teaching. They build confidence, spark curiosity, and create a love for learning that goes beyond textbooks.
Take Ayaan, a ten-year-old from Govandi. He struggled with math but, with guidance from ELF teachers, he now solves complex problems with ease. Then there’s Meera, a young girl who discovered her passion for painting through art workshops. These children prove that talent and determination can shine anywhere.
A Year Of Growth And Impact At Khushiyon Ki Paatshala
Khushiyon Ki Paatshala made significant progress this year, introducing a standardized curriculum, structured reporting, and teacher training to improve learning. Students benefited from trimester-based evaluations, online Maths classes, and socio-emotional sessions with APNISHALA. A major milestone was six students participating in the Global Young Researchers Academy (GYRA), a unique four-year PhD-like program for children. Now in their second year of thesis work, they are gaining invaluable research experience. Children also engaged in research, educational visits, and the first Annual Sports Day. Another highlight was transforming Dnyan Sadhana School, ensuring better resources and structured learning for all.
An Initiative with Community Roots
The core value of ELF’s mission is: For the community, By the community, and within the community.
Rashmi Balwani, the Founder of Enrich Lives Foundation (ELF) reflected on her journey saying, “The pandemic hit us all hard, but for me, it was a euphoric moment—the bright spot in darkness. It allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine: to launch ELF. Without the crew, volunteers, and donors who united to make this adventure possible, it would not have been feasible”.
This initiative’s impact is visible not just in personal stories but in real change:
- 220+ women empowered through skill-building programs
- 26.5 lakh+ meals provided to ensure children don’t study on an empty stomach
- 29.3K+ lives changed through education and support
- 152+ young leaders trained to build a better future
Participate in the Transformation
Every child should have the opportunity to grow, learn, and pursue their dreams. But it takes a village to make that happen. Support from those who value education is essential to Khushiyon Ki Paatshala’s success. Whether it’s volunteering your time, contributing resources, or simply spreading the word, your support can light up a child’s path to a brighter future. Because when a child succeeds, an entire community rises with them.
