Chaos erupted on the bustling VIP Road in Kanpur this Sunday afternoon when Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco bigwig KK Mishra, rammed his Lamborghini Revuelto into pedestrians and vehicles, leaving at least six people injured. The incident, which occurred around 3:15 pm near the Rev-3 Mall in the Gwaltoli area, has sparked widespread outrage across the city, bringing the conduct of the city’s elite under severe scrutiny and is the latest in a series of dangerous and often fatal high-speed accidents that highlight the laxity of the law of the land.

According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, the luxury supercar was being driven by Shivam Mishra, the son of prominent tobacco trader KK Mishra. Witnesses describe a terrifying scene where the vehicle, reportedly moving at a breakneck speed, first struck an auto-rickshaw before careening into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle rider was flung nearly 10 feet into the air, a harrowing detail that underscores the velocity at which the car was traveling. The rampage only came to a halt when the Lamborghini crashed into an electric pole, its front end heavily damaged.

The aftermath of the crash was as volatile as the accident itself. Locals who rushed to help the victims alleged that Shivam Mishra appeared to be intoxicated. Tensions escalated when security personnel, reportedly bouncers traveling in a trailing escort vehicle, attempted to shield Mishra from the gathering crowd. These aides allegedly behaved aggressively toward bystanders, leading to a scuffle. Angry locals eventually smashed the Lamborghini’s windows and pulled the driver out before police intervention prevented further violence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed that an FIR has been registered and the vehicle seized. “The accident occurred when the luxury car went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside,” Srivastava stated. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

The incident has once again turned the spotlight on the Mishra family, who own Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a major supplier to the gutkha industry. Shivam Mishra is no stranger to headlines; he is known for his lavish lifestyle and a fleet of luxury cars that often bear the number plate ‘4018’. The family was previously the subject of extensive multi-state income tax raids in February 2024. During those investigations, authorities reportedly uncovered significant discrepancies in income, unaccounted cash, and evidence of offshore transactions, seizing luxury watches and vehicles in the process.

This latest crash has reignited discussions about the unchecked recklessness often displayed by the influential ‘high-net-worth’ individuals in smaller metros. While the police have assured that strict legal action will follow, the public remains skeptical, citing the family’s deep pockets and political connections.

As the victims recover from their injuries, the city of Kanpur waits to see if justice will be served or if this will become another instance of power bulldozing over public safety.
