A formal complaint has been lodged against YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organizers of the TV show India’s Got Latent. The complaint was submitted on Monday to the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, accusing the individuals of using offensive language during the show. The letter calls for strict legal action against those involved.
Ranveer Allahabadia, known for his “BeerBiceps” channel, sparked controversy following a comment on Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. During a recent episode, Allahabadia posed an inappropriate question to a contestant, which led to an online backlash. The episode included popular content creators such as Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija (known as “The Rebel Kid”).
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked, “I have heard about the incident but haven’t seen it yet. Statements made have been presented in an inappropriate manner. While freedom of speech is essential, it shouldn’t infringe upon others’ freedoms. Our society has certain rules, and violating them requires action.”
The controversial moment occurred when Allahabadia asked a contestant whether they would rather watch their parents engage in sexual activity for the rest of their life or join them once to end it. The comment went viral, igniting widespread criticism, with many calling it insensitive and inappropriate.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate condemned the remarks, stating, “This is not creativity; it’s perversion. We cannot normalize such behavior as entertaining.” She also expressed concern over the applause the comment received, calling it a troubling trend.
On social media, users urged Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to intervene. Some criticized the declining quality of humor, while others warned that such content could negatively influence young audiences. There were also calls for actor Amitabh Bachchan to reconsider his associations with the show’s creators, referencing a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati featuring Samay Raina, Tanmay Bhat, Bhuvan Bam, and Kamiya Jani.
