Mumbai: In a shocking case of sextortion, Mumbai Police have arrested a woman cricketer along with two accomplices for allegedly extorting Rs 63 lakh from a businessman. The arrests were made by the Crime Branch following an investigation into a complaint filed by the victim.

The main accused, Farkhanda Khan, is reported to be a national-level cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir. She was arrested along with her brother Bazil Aziz Khan and associate Imtiaz Wani. The accused were taken into custody from Delhi and Srinagar.

According to the police, the 28-year-old businessman from South Mumbai’s Colaba area came in contact with Farkhanda in 2024 while he was residing in the western suburbs. Over time, the acquaintance developed into a close relationship. Investigators believe the accused later exploited this relationship to execute a planned extortion scheme.

Police said that Farkhanda allegedly demanded money from the businessman and, upon his refusal, threatened to make private chats public. Under pressure, the victim transferred money in multiple installments. Initially, Rs 23 lakh was paid, followed by an additional Rs 40 lakh, taking the total amount to Rs 63 lakh.

Further investigation revealed that the extorted money was routed through multiple bank accounts. A portion of the funds was transferred to Imtiaz Wani’s account, while other amounts were deposited into accounts belonging to the accused and their family members. Bazil Aziz Khan is also accused of repeatedly threatening the businessman.

The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the racket.
