In a major breakthrough for the quick-commerce sector, Swiggy Instamart has announced a strategic partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to deliver LPG gas cylinders directly to households within minutes. Under this first-of-its-kind initiative in India, consumers will soon be able to order an LPG cylinder as easily as groceries, milk, or vegetables through the Swiggy Instamart app. The pilot phase of this service is set to launch in Bengaluru before expanding to other major cities across the country.
To ensure safety and ease of handling, the service will initially offer two specific variants, namely the 10kg ‘HP Navya’ composite LPG cylinder and the popular 5kg ‘Chhotu’ LPG cylinder. The ‘HP Navya’ cylinder, developed by HPCL, represents a modern upgrade to traditional steel cylinders. It is lighter, rust-free, and significantly safer. Crucially, its translucent body allows users to easily monitor the remaining gas level, making it highly convenient for small families, students, and apartment dwellers.
A key highlight of this partnership is that customers do not need an existing LPG connection to place an order. First-time buyers can purchase a new cylinder directly through the Instamart app by completing a quick identity verification and submitting the necessary documents during their first transaction. Subsequent orders will be treated as standard refills, where the delivery agent will collect the empty cylinder upon dropping off the new one. This on-demand delivery model is expected to immensely benefit students living away from home, working professionals relocating to new cities, tenants, and households requiring a backup cylinder.
Speaking on the partnership, Amitesh Jha, CEO of Swiggy Instamart, emphasized that the collaboration extends Instamart’s reliable ecosystem to essential home services, ensuring the highest standards of safety and trust. Amit Garg, Director of Marketing at HPCL, added that integrating the advanced ‘HP Navya’ composite cylinders with Swiggy’s rapid digital platform aligns with HPCL’s vision to modernize and simplify energy access for a changing India. With quick-commerce already transforming the delivery of groceries, medicines, and electronics, the addition of on-demand LPG is poised to drastically reduce wait times and redefine urban household convenience
