Remuneration Approved for 1,385 Police Officers and Personnel Involved in Assembly Election Duties

Mumbai, August 11: In a significant and reassuring decision for the officers and personnel of the Brihanmumbai Police Force who served round the clock during the Maharashtra Assembly General Election 2024, the state government has approved special honorarium and remuneration. A total of 1,385 police officers and staff members who performed full-time duties in the Special Election Cell established between October 15, 2024, and November 23, 2024, will receive this benefit as a ‘special case’. The Home Department of the state government issued an official Government Resolution (GR) in this regard on August 11, 2026.

The Special Election Cell under the Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate remained operational from the issuance of the election notification until the announcement of results. A total of 1,385 personnel comprising 586 police officers and 799 police constables/personnel from various wings including the Police Commissionerate, Regional Divisions, Zones, Police Stations, Motor Transport, Wireless Department, and Armed Police Force were deployed full-time. Recognizing their dedicated service, the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, submitted a proposal for honorarium, which has now received state government approval.

Under this decision, 586 gazetted officers directly involved in election duties will receive an honorarium equivalent to their basic pay for the month of October 2024. Meanwhile, 799 non-gazetted employees (Groups ‘B’ to ‘D’ and drivers) will be granted an Overtime Allowance proportional to their basic pay for the extra work performed. The government has sanctioned a total fund of 6,51,75,572 to complete the disbursement process, and this honorarium will be disbursed in a single installment.

The state government has also laid down strict terms and conditions for this payout. Only employees who were officially assigned full-time election duties through written office orders by a competent authority and who hold a ‘Work Completion Certificate’ certified by the Police Commissioner and District Election Officer will be eligible. Furthermore, personnel who previously claimed daily or traveling allowance (TA/DA) can choose whichever option is more financially beneficial, as both benefits cannot be claimed simultaneously. Daily-wage or contractual employees and private drivers have been excluded from this scheme. This decision serves as a gesture of appreciation for the police force that maintained law and order in Mumbai during the election period.
