Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Members of Parliament to vote in favour of the amendment to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, calling it a historic opportunity to strengthen women’s representation in the country.
He noted that discussions on the amendment are ongoing in Parliament and continued late into the night, with debates lasting until 1 AM.
The Prime Minister said that all concerns and misconceptions raised by members have been addressed with logical explanations, and necessary clarifications have been provided.
Highlighting that the issue of women’s reservation has been debated for nearly four decades, he stressed that the time has come to ensure fair representation for women, who make up nearly half of India’s population.
He added that the current low participation of women in decision-making roles is not appropriate and must be corrected.
With voting in the Lok Sabha expected soon, the Prime Minister appealed to all political parties to take a thoughtful and sensitive decision in support of the amendment. He urged MPs to consider the aspirations of women across the country, noting that millions are closely watching Parliament’s decision.
Calling it a matter of national importance, he asked members to reflect on the women in their own families and follow their conscience while voting.
He described the amendment as a crucial step towards empowering women and strengthening democracy.
Expressing confidence, the Prime Minister said that unanimous support for the amendment would mark a defining moment in India’s democratic journey and create new opportunities for women nationwide.
