New Delhi: Calling for a nationwide movement to strengthen India’s manufacturing power, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the country must aggressively promote Made in India products and reduce dependence on foreign imports.

Addressing industry leaders at the Bharatiya Swadeshi Mela, Piyush Goyal said India’s growing economic strength must now translate into global manufacturing dominance. He urged industrial hubs such as Rajkot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Batala and pune to ramp up domestic production and cut India’s reliance on imported capital goods.

“India should never become complacent just because it is the world’s fastest-growing economy,” Goyal said, stressing that the country must constantly innovate and work towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 envisioned by Narendra modi.

Highlighting India’s rapidly expanding manufacturing capabilities, the Minister pointed to a CT scan machine manufactured in Visakhapatnam as an example of the country’s technological progress. He said wider adoption of Indian made products would boost production, generate employment and strengthen the economy.

Goyal also emphasised the importance of quality and productivity warning that India cannot dominate global markets without world class packaging and manufacturing standards. Despite global economic uncertainty he noted that India’s exports continue to rise steadily.

In a major push for entrepreneurship the Minister highlighted huge opportunities in agriculture and fisheries saying exports from these sectors have crossed nearly Rs 5 lakh crore. However he said value addition remains low and urged young entrepreneurs to establish food processing and manufacturing units across India.

He also announced that the MSME definition has been expanded bringing enterprises with turnover up to Rs 500 crore under the MSME ambit a move aimed at helping businesses scale faster. Calling for greater participation of youth and startups Goyal said India must focus on import substitution and encourage domestic industries to manufacture products currently sourced from foreign countries.

The Minister further proposed a large scale promotion of India’s digital payment systems through national payments corporation of india (NPCI). He suggested setting up dedicated kiosks at bharat mandapam to distribute RUPAY debit cards and encourage visitors to make payments through UPI and RUPAY platforms.

Declaring that “no force in the world can stop India’s progress,” Goyal said the combined strength of 140 crore Indians will drive the nation towards becoming a global economic powerhouse. The Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav will be organised from August 12 to August 15, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
