Mumbai, April 30: The State Government has now taken a stern stand against administrative departments that cause delays in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and fail to provide explanations within the prescribed timeframe. The Finance Department has issued orders for immediate action following the submission of a special report on the scheme by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) to the Legislature on March 25, 2026.

The Public Accounts Committee has expressed strong displeasure over the significant delays and errors in receiving information from administrative departments. Departments have been granted a three-month deadline to submit explanations regarding the points raised in the report. Instructions have been issued ensuring that these explanations must be comprehensive and self-explanatory.

Mandatory Action Within Prescribed Deadlines

It has been made mandatory to submit explanations to the Public Accounts Committee within three months of receiving the report.

If there is any delay in obtaining information from regional offices, the matter must be brought to the immediate notice of the concerned Secretaries.

The government has warned that if there is a delay in sending explanations within the stipulated time, responsibility will be fixed and necessary action will be taken against the concerned officers.

This circular has been issued to handle the operations of the scheme with greater seriousness and promptness, and all ministerial administrative departments have been ordered to follow it strictly.
