Big News! Major Shake-up in SIR Draft Electoral Roll; Names of Nearly 2.07 Crore Voters Missing in Maharashtra

With the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on November 4, completing the verification process before the deadline remains crucial.

The draft electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative was officially released on August 31, 2026, across Maharashtra and Delhi. Owing to door-to-door verification drives, unsubmitted forms, incomplete digitization, and various technical glitches, a substantial number of voters find their names missing from the draft roll. Following field inspections, entries belonging to Absentee, Shifted, Deceased, Duplicate, and Foreign voter categories have been removed.

In Delhi, the SIR exercise has severely impacted the voter count. Out of the capital’s 1.45 crore registered voters, as many as 47,56,722 names do not figure in the draft electoral list. Conversely, records for 97,53,507 voters have been successfully digitized. Consequently, individuals whose names are missing must re-verify their details and submit claims where necessary.

Maharashtra has similarly registered a massive exclusion, with approximately 2.07 crore voters in the state currently left out of the draft electoral roll because their records could not be digitized due to missing forms. Authorities have clarified that a missing entry in the draft roll does not imply a permanent loss of voting rights, as voters can still submit their details to be included in the final list.

The month-long window to file claims or objections opens on August 31 and runs through September 30, 2026. Official scrutiny and resolution of all received claims will be completed by October 29, 2026, leading up to the final publication of the electoral roll on November 4, 2026.

Citizens in Maharashtra and Delhi are strongly advised to check their inclusion status on the official Chief Electoral Officer websites. If a name is missing, voters should fill out Form 6 along with supporting documents before September 30. Form 7 can be utilized to register objections against ineligible entries, while Form 8 should be submitted for corrections regarding spelling, address, or other details on the Electoral Photo Identity Card. Completing these formalities before the deadline ensures proper representation in the final electoral list.
