In a major anti-corruption action, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested Kailas Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹42,000.

According to officials, Gaikwad was caught red-handed while taking the bribe from contractor Dashrath Survate. The payment was allegedly demanded to clear pending bills related to encroachment department work carried out in the Airoli area between November 15, 2024, and February 15, 2025.

Following a formal complaint, the ACB laid a trap and conducted a raid at the municipal headquarters in Navi Mumbai. The operation took place inside Gaikwad’s office on the third floor, where he was apprehended during the transaction.

Authorities have taken Gaikwad into custody, and further investigation is underway to examine the extent of the alleged corruption and any possible involvement of others.

The incident has sparked concern over corruption within civic bodies and highlights ongoing efforts by enforcement agencies to curb bribery in public administration.
