Planned Development of Akkalkot Shri Swami Samarth Temple Area to be Undertaken by MHADA

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Approves Appointment of Special Planning Authority

Mumbai, July 29: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has been approved as the Special Planning Authority for the planned and comprehensive development of the Shri Vatavruksha Swami Samarth Temple area in Akkalkot. The approval was granted by Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde, paving the way for the development of roads, parking facilities, reserved areas, and other essential infrastructure around the temple premises.

Akkalkot MLA Sachin Kalyanshetti had raised the demand before Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and followed up on the matter. Subsequently, Akkalkot Municipal Council, the Solapur District Collector’s office, and MHADA submitted a proposal to the state government for the development of the temple area.

According to the proposal, works including road widening, construction of parking facilities, development of reserved spaces, and systematic planning of the temple surroundings will be undertaken. MHADA has expressed readiness to allocate around ₹500 crore for the implementation of the development plan.

The project will also include the development of the palkhi route, Samadhi Mandir area, traffic management system, lakes, gardens, and other public amenities. The initiative is expected to accelerate the growth of Akkalkot as a major pilgrimage destination and provide modern facilities to devotees.

After publication of the notification regarding the Special Planning Authority in the Maharashtra Government Gazette, the planning and development responsibilities of the area will be transferred to MHADA.

The decision approved by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is being considered a significant step towards the overall and systematic development of one of Maharashtra’s prominent religious destinations.
