MUMBAI, JULY 7: The Department of Electronics, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence of the Government of Maharashtra has issued an official corrigendum aimed at expanding and accelerating the development of digital infrastructure across the state. Under the National Broadband Mission guidelines, the state government had previously constituted the State Broadband Committee and various District-Level Telecom Committees on April 15, 2026. However, it was later observed that local officials from the central Department of Telecommunications were omitted from these district-level panels. To rectify this gap and ensure optimal coordination between state and federal authorities, the government has officially revised the structure of the District-Level Telecom Committee.
The primary mandate of this committee is to conduct monthly reviews and oversee the progress of the National Broadband Mission within districts and municipal corporation areas. To expedite technical clearances, statutory licensing, and Right-of-Way approvals within the telecom sector, a representative from the central Department of Telecommunications has now been formally integrated into this revised committee as an official member.
To streamline coordination across administrative, law enforcement, and technical departments, the reconstituted committee will now comprise 12 members. According to the revised structure, the District Collector will head the committee as the Chairperson. The Municipal Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad will serve as the Co-Chairpersons.
The committee will further include representatives of the Superintendent of Police or the Police Commissioner, representatives of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, the Chief Executive Engineer of Mahavitaran, and the Chief Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department as active members. For technical and digital alignment, the District Informatics Officer of the National Informatics Centre along with the newly inducted representative of the Department of Telecommunications will also serve as board members. Additionally, the District Project Manager and representatives from other essential departments will attend sessions as special invitees based on regional requirements, while an officer nominated by the District Collector’s Office will function as the Member-Secretary.
