Mumbai, July 9: The Maharashtra government has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption in the Transport Department. Addressing the Legislative Assembly, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik stated that no official involved in corruption or misconduct would receive protection from the government.

The issue was raised by Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who sought immediate action against officials allegedly involved in irregularities within the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Responding to the discussion, Sarnaik informed the House that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is conducting a detailed investigation into the alleged financial irregularities.

To ensure a fair and transparent inquiry, the government has ordered Regional Transport Officer Ravindra Bhuyar, Motor Vehicle Inspector Yogesh More, and Motor Vehicle Inspector Ganesh Vighne to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect.

The minister also announced that an IPS-rank officer has been appointed to supervise the investigation and ensure that the probe remains impartial.

“There is absolutely no place for corruption in the Transport Department. The officials have been sent on compulsory leave to prevent any influence on the investigation and to ensure that the truth comes to light. Anyone found guilty after the inquiry will face strict administrative and legal action without any leniency,” Sarnaik said.

He further emphasized that the Maharashtra government is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the state’s transport administration, adding that the campaign against corruption will continue with the same level of determination in the future.
