Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar passes away after plane crash near Baramati

According to reports, Pawar had been slated to attend four major public meetings in the run-up to the local body elections. 

In a gruesome private plane crash near Baramati in Pune, NCP Chief and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is confirmed dead, alongside all six passengers on board, including crew members. The civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), confirmed the report. The demised Deputy Chief Minister was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati around 8 am in a Learjet 45 aircraft (registration VT-SSK), operated by VSR Ventures. 

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that, according to preliminary information, there were no survivors among those on board after an aircraft carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed while attempting to land near Baramati. 

The DGCA said Pawar was travelling with two security and support personnel (one PSO and one attendant) along with two crew members, including the pilot-in-command and the first officer.  

Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, and son, Parth Pawar, have been rushed to Baramati. Reports from ANI confirmed, that the Maharashtra government said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and received updates on the Baramati plane crash.
