MUMBAI, AUGUST 20:  The Maharashtra government is considering a new policy that proposes reserving five per cent of available plots for certain special categories, including Central Government employees, serving and retired personnel of the armed forces, elected and former Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly, freedom fighters and their legal heirs, persons with disabilities and economically weaker sections.

State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule approved the draft policy on Wednesday. The proposal will now be placed before Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for final approval.

The proposed policy is aimed at establishing a structured framework for the allotment of government land while ensuring representation for various categories that have been identified for special consideration.

The proposal also includes provisions for fixing reserved plots for backward classes and persons with disabilities under the new policy. The move is expected to provide greater opportunities for eligible beneficiaries from these sections to access government land allotments.

The draft policy is now awaiting the Chief Minister’s final approval. Once cleared, the government is expected to issue detailed guidelines covering eligibility criteria, the allotment process and other related provisions.

Reservations

Under the proposed policy, 40% of the available land will be earmarked for the general category. Another 15% will be reserved for employees of the State Government, local self-government institutions and municipal bodies.

In addition, 10% of the available land will be reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Nomadic Tribes, while 10% will be allocated to writers, artists, sportspersons and journalists.
