Multi-ministerial response ensures steady air travel, fuel availability, and safety of over 7.6 lakh passengers returning from the region

In response to the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Government of India has launched a coordinated, multi-ministerial strategy to safeguard aviation operations, ensure uninterrupted fuel supply, and support Indian nationals across the affected region.

The measures were outlined during an inter-ministerial media briefing held at the National Media Centre.

The aviation sector, significantly impacted by airspace closures across several West Asian countries, is operating under a multi-layered contingency framework. Despite extended flight routes to Europe and North America and rising operational costs, Indian carriers have maintained stability.

Government intervention in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) pricing constituting nearly 40% of airline expenses has helped keep domestic airfares steady.

Temporary operational relaxations, including extended pilot duty hours, have also been introduced to manage crew constraints.

On the energy front, authorities confirmed that supplies of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG remain stable nationwide.

Citizens have been advised against panic buying, with the government emphasizing adequate stock availability and smooth distribution. Public sector oil companies have intensified monitoring to curb hoarding and black marketing, conducting over 4,300 enforcement raids in a single day.

To support vulnerable populations, particularly migrant workers, the government has doubled the daily allocation of 5 kg LPG cylinders beyond earlier limits.

In the past four days over 1,300 awareness camps were conducted, while more than 1.06 lakh such cylinders were sold on April 6 alone.

Domestic LPG deliveries continue without disruption, supported by increased refinery output and streamlined distribution systems.

India is also accelerating its transition to cleaner energy, Since March 2026, approximately 3.76 lakh piped natural gas (PNG) connections have been activated, with an additional 4.1 lakh consumers registering for new connections.

Policy measures including fast tracked pipeline approvals and incentives for PNG adoption, aim to reduce dependence on LPG in the long term.

Maritime operations remain unaffected with all ports functioning normally and no congestion reported.

Over 1,691 Indian seafarers have been repatriated so far including 92 in the past 24 hours while 16 Indian flagged vessels continue to operate safely in the Persian Gulf under close monitoring.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the safety of Indian nationals remains a top priority.

Since February 28  around 7.6 lakh passengers have returned to India from the region through scheduled and special flights.

Indian missions across West Asia are operating helplines facilitating evacuations transit routes and providing logistical and consular support.

Despite continued volatility in the region the Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining economic stability ensuring energy security and protecting the welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad.
