Sharad Pawar Publicly Applauds Fadnavis Administration

Mumbai, July 11: Sharad Pawar, President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), has publicly lauded the Mahayuti government’s revised agricultural loan waiver policy. In a significant statement issued on Saturday, Pawar emphasized that the revised decision will provide substantial relief to the state’s agrarian community, describing it as a move that fully aligns with the interests and sentiments of the farmers.

Pawar took to his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account to commend the administration. The state government had previously announced a farm loan waiver scheme; however, the initial framework included several stringent conditions that triggered widespread anxiety among farmers. Acknowledging the discontent, the government acted swiftly to retract the restrictive clauses and introduce necessary adjustments to the eligibility criteria. The formal announcement regarding these updates was made in the Legislative Assembly by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Welcoming the Chief Minister’s sensitive approach, Pawar noted that by eliminating the initial constraints, the government has responsibly addressed the core concerns of the farming community.

This public endorsement has sparked intense political discussion, coming on the heels of a high-profile meeting last Wednesday between Sharad Pawar, accompanied by his party leaders, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the latter’s legislative office. While that meeting fueled intense speculation and triggered mixed reactions from within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) opposition alliance, Pawar’s direct appreciation of the Fadnavis government’s policy decision has shifted the political spotlight.

Deeply Grateful to Sharad Pawar: Chief Minister

“I have not personally watched Sharad Pawar’s statement, but if he has welcomed the government’s decision, I am deeply grateful to him,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, expressing his appreciation while addressing the media in Kamthi.

Responding to the veteran leader’s praise, Chief Minister Fadnavis characterized the current package as the largest agricultural loan waiver in Maharashtra’s history. He pointed out that unlike previous rollouts, which systematically excluded beneficiaries of immediate past relief schemes, the Mahayuti administration has broken new ground. Under the earlier Mahatma Jyotirao Phule loan waiver scheme, individuals who received benefits but subsequently fell back into default were initially slated to receive a maximum relief of ₹50,000. However, following sustained demands from ruling alliance lawmakers, the government amended the policy to grant a blanket, full loan waiver to these distressed farmers as well, Fadnavis explained.
