State Government Approves ₹60.28 Crore Fund

Fishermen across the state’s coastal districts will no longer face hurdles in accessing essential facilities at fish landing centers. The Maharashtra Government has issued a crucial Government Resolution (GR) granting administrative approval for ₹60.28 crore to complete ongoing projects that were previously denied funding by NABARD under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) scheme.

The proposal was finalized during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on April 13, 2026. Certain projects under NABARD had been excluded under the ‘Project yet not grounded’ category. As it became clear that NABARD would no longer provide financial assistance, there was a risk that vital infrastructure work for the state’s fishing community would come to a standstill. However, prioritizing the welfare of fishermen, the state government decided to shoulder the financial burden from its own treasury.

* Funds Allocated to 8 Key Projects

The state government has made ₹60.28 crore available for eight critical centers. The projects included are:

*   Diwalegaon (Thane): ₹10.56 crore

*   Vjaydurg (Sindhudurg): ₹2.80 crore

*   Dhakti Dahanu (Palghar): ₹16.55 crore

*   Veldur (Ratnagiri): ₹10.82 crore

*   Raigad District: Borli Mandla (₹0.81 crore), Dighi (₹7.72 crore), Rajpuri (₹3.89 crore), and Nandgaon (₹7.13 crore)

* Deadlines and Strict Monitoring

The Commissioner of Fisheries has been ordered to take immediate action for the implementation of these works. Additionally, it has been made mandatory to submit a quarterly progress and expenditure report to the government. Instructions have also been issued to ensure that the works are completed strictly within the limits of the administrative approval.

To ensure that the development of Konkan’s ports does not stall due to NABARD’s technical reasons, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis intervened directly to adopt a policy of funding through state resources. This has created a wave of satisfaction among the fishermen in the Konkan and coastal belts, with the decision being viewed as a significant part of the Mahayuti government’s ‘Fishermen Welfare’ agenda.
