Mumbai, August 20: The pending compensation issue of fishermen affected by the Versova-Bandra Sea Link project is expected to be resolved within two months after the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submits its detailed study report, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Wednesday.

A meeting on the issue was held under Shinde’s chairmanship through video conferencing. Fisheries Development Minister Nitesh Rane, senior officials, MSRDC Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad, former MLA Kiran Pawaskar and representatives of fishermen’s organisations attended the meeting.

Shinde said the government is committed to supporting fishermen and ensuring a substantial compensation package based on appropriate criteria. The meeting also discussed pending compensation for fishermen affected by the Coastal Road project.

The TISS study will help determine compensation criteria. Proposals for facilities such as jetties, net-fixing areas and drying yards in the Juhu-Versova region were also discussed.
