The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking in Kerala under Operation Chakravyuh, leading to the seizure of more than 24 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and the arrest of five individuals involved in trafficking networks.
The coordinated operations were carried out by the DRI’s Cochin Unit across Kochi, Malappuram, and Thiruvananthapuram. Authorities seized various illegal substances, including methaqualone, methamphetamine, and hashish oil, which were intended for illicit distribution and trafficking.
The contraband was intercepted through multiple smuggling channels, including passenger baggage at airports, courier consignments, and outbound export cargo shipments. The arrested individuals, including key operatives linked to the trafficking networks, have been booked under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The latest seizures underscore DRI’s continued vigilance and its focused efforts to dismantle organized drug trafficking networks operating through both domestic and international routes.
During the financial year 2025–26, the DRI’s Cochin Zonal Unit seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth approximately ₹70.76 crore in Kerala and arrested 21 persons in connection with various NDPS-related cases.
The DRI reiterated its commitment to combating the drug menace and supporting the Government of India’s vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India) through sustained enforcement and intelligence-led operations.
