Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister, and Aam Aadmi Party leader has filed a plea in a Delhi court seeking interim bail to campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Currently in judicial custody over allegations related to the Delhi excise policy scam case, Sisodia approached the Rouse Avenue Court, emphasizing the need to participate in election campaigning. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), opposing Sisodia’s regular bail plea earlier, argued that the prosecution faced no delays, attributing any delays to frivolous applications filed by the accused in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
During the hearing, Sisodia’s legal counsel highlighted a delay in trial proceedings, contrasting with the ED’s stance that there was no delay on their part, extending Sisodia’s judicial custody until April 18, and stressEd the urgency for expedited proceedings. The court has issued a notice to the ED and CBI following Sisodia’s plea, directing them to respond by April 20, when the plea will be reviewed.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 and by the ED on March 9 last year in connection with the excise policy case. He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.
