Congress Chief Harshvardhan Sapkal Questions BJP’s Tiranga Yatra, Attacks MahaYuti Government

Mumbai, August 11, 2026: Maharashtra Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal welcomed the BJP-RSS-led Tiranga Yatra but questioned the ideological shift of the organisations that, he alleged, had opposed the national flag for decades.

Speaking after a Congress Core Committee meeting at Tilak Bhavan, Sapkal said, “If those who opposed the national flag are now taking out Tiranga Yatras, it is welcome — der aaye, durust aaye.” However, he cautioned that the move should not be politically motivated.

The meeting reviewed the party’s organisational preparedness and discussed political and social issues, including SIR and the appointment of 65,000 BLA-2s.

Sapkal accused the MahaYuti government of failing on corruption, inflation, farmers’ issues, unemployment and law and order. He alleged that divisive politics was being used to divert public attention.

On the Jharkhand student protest, he called the BJP’s Parliament protest “hypocritical” and backed Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the police action.

Sapkal also defended Rahul Gandhi, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were avoiding parliamentary debate.
