BMC Urges Citizens to Avoid Standing or Parking Under Trees During Heavy Rains

Mumbai, June 25: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appealed to citizens to avoid taking shelter under trees or parking vehicles beneath them during heavy rainfall, despite extensive pre-monsoon tree pruning across the city.

The BMC’s Garden Department said it has scientifically surveyed and trimmed potentially dangerous trees before the monsoon season. However, strong winds and intense rain can still cause trees or branches to fall unexpectedly, posing a serious risk to public safety.

To raise awareness, the department has displayed information boards across Mumbai city and its eastern and western suburbs, urging residents to stay away from trees during storms.

Citizens who notice dangerous trees near residential buildings, housing societies, or along roads are requested to immediately contact their local ward office’s Garden Department or call the BMC’s civic helpline at 1916.

Garden Superintendent Jitendra Pardeshi also urged housing societies and building managements to obtain the necessary permissions and carry out timely pruning of hazardous trees to prevent accidents during the monsoon.
