Mumbai, July 13: Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to ensure that ongoing Metro construction along S.V. Road does not lead to waterlogging during the monsoon.

Shelar conducted a joint inspection of the Metro work along with senior officials from BMC and MMRDA to review monsoon preparedness and assess the impact of the construction on storm water drainage.

During the inspection, officials found that some newly constructed storm water drains under the Metro project had a capacity of 1.2 metres, which falls short of the BMC’s prescribed minimum standard of 1.5 metres. Shelar instructed officials to upgrade these stretches to meet the required specifications.

He also directed authorities to immediately restore drainage systems wherever Metro construction has disrupted or delayed storm water drainage works. Additionally, BMC and MMRDA have been asked to jointly identify missing drainage links, incomplete works and pending desilting along S.V. Road, and complete them on priority to minimise the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon.
