Who was Pradeep Rawat? The actor who became Indian cinema’s unforgettable villain

The veteran performer Pradeep Rawat, credited with presenting some of the finest baddies in the Indian cinema, died of cancer at the age of 74. His spokesperson has confirmed that he died on August 4 following a relapse of the illness, making him one of the most celebrated stars of Indian cinema over a career spanning 40 years.

He was born on January 22, 1952, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and made a debut in acting on television with the famous show created by producer B.R. Chopra called Mahabharata, where he appeared as Achwatthama. His works led him to become a name of authority in films.

While he was well known in Bollywood films as Deva Singh Sodhi in Lagaan and as the heartless Ghajini in Aamir Khan’s film with the same name, Rawat also had an impactful career in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam movies. His powerful and intense performances have earned him the status of one of the best villains in the industry.

Over the years, he appeared in many famous movies such as Sarfarosh, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Sye, Stalin, Naayak, Grand Masti, etc. His movie Sye, which is also his debut in Telugu films received a lot of appreciation from the critics and numerous awards. This film made him one of the best actors in the Indian film industry.
