Who was Kuku Kohli? Bollywood bids final farewell to Phool Aur Kaante director as Rohit Shetty, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal attend funeral

Kuku Kohli, a veteran who helped Ajay Devgn grab his big break at the movies with the help of the 1991 film ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ died and was laid to rest in Mumbai on Wednesday, August 26. He was 77 years old when he died of a heart attack on Tuesday, August 25. His body was cremated in Oshiwara Crematorium.

The funeral of Kuku Kohli was attended by filmmaker Rohit Shetty and actors Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal. Veteran artist Aruna Irani was seen quite emotional while saying goodbye to her husband Kohli. Many other friends and colleagues of the deceased attended the funeral.

Who was Kuku Kohli?

For millions of fans of Hindi cinema, Kuku Kohli always remains synonymous with ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ which was the 1991 movie that led to the start of Ajay Devgn’s career in Bollywood. The now-famous scene where Ajay made his entry by standing between two motorcycles is considered one of the most memorable moments of the film. Ajay has always credited Kohli for showing confidence in him during his initial phase in the industry.

In the wake of Kohli’s passing, Ajay Devgn paid tribute to the late filmmaker by mentioning that Kohli would always be important in Devgn’s life and expressing gratitude for the confidence he had in him.

Kohli has produced many films apart from Phool Aur Kaante; the director is known for hits like Kohraam, Suhaag, Haqeeqat, Zulmi, Anari No. 1, Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa, and Woh Tera Naam Tha. His filmmaking brought him in collaboration with many big stars of that time such as Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Dharmendra, Tabu, and Karisma Kapoor.

Although Kuku Kohli largely kept away from public life, his film legacy remains alive. Stars had gathered in their numbers to pay their respect to this legendary filmmaker who gifted the audiences and Ajay Devgn a film they would remember forever.
