Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is on track to be one of the biggest projects ever attempted in Indian cinema and with the latest announcement, the expectations have only gone higher. Sony Pictures has now become the international distributor of this mythological project, giving the Ranbir Kapoor lead production a much-awaited global platform.

The studio will handle film distribution in international territories while the India release will still be managed by Dharma Productions. The collaboration is anticipated to make the project big on the worldwide scale due to the intentions of the film’s producers to introduce the country’s one of the biggest epics to the audience globally.

Producer Namit Malhotra referred to the collaboration as a major milestone in the journey of Ramayana, arguing that their vision has always been to present the timeless story to a global audience. The film is being produced under Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG, which is the Oscar-winning visual effects studio.

According to reports, the project is said to have a mind-boggling budget of around Rs. 4,000 crore split over two parts, making it one of the most expensive movie franchises ever made in India. The amount includes the budget for production, special effects, and promotion, which shows clearly that the producers want to make a movie that can compete with the best international series.

Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The film also stars Sunny Deol in the role of Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Laxman. The music is composed by none other than Oscar-winning Hans Zimmer along with renowned A.R. Rahman. The action direction was looked after by Terry Notary and Guy Norris, which proves the movie’s gigantic scale of production.

The first part is expected to be released in theatres during Diwali 2026 while the sequel will be out in 2027. According to the information available, the promotional activities for the trailer have been adjusted due to Sony taking part, giving the impression that Ramayana will be presented as a worldwide event instead of just another Indian movie.
