From Mohra to Barood: We revisit Akshay–Raveena’s golden on-screen chemistry  

With the upcoming release of Welcome to the Jungle, one of the biggest nostalgic topics of discussion is the reunion between Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon. The two had an incredible run in the 90s with their sizzling chemistry, timeless music, and over-the-top commercial films. Before we see them back on the big screens together, let’s look back at some of their most epic past collaborations. 

Mohra (1994) 

Easily, this is their most iconic film together. Mohra is an action-packed film where Akshay Kumar plays the part of an honest police officer and fights against corruption and crime, and Raveena plays the emotional and romantic piece to his story. But what made this film really legendary was not just the storyline, but their chemistry in Tip Tip Barsa Paani and Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast. Here, these two were like electricity – bold, unforgettable, and made them one of the most talked-about jodis of the decade! 

Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) 

In this action-comedy, Akshay Kumar plays a film star who shadows a real-life police officer for research for an upcoming role. Raveena Tandon has a special guest-starring role, and although her time spent on-screen is very limited, the chemistry between the two is evident. The film thrives on humour, action, and storytelling, and their brief interactions still managed to leave an impression. 

Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996) 

This was a film that went even bigger, louder, and crazier than before. Akshay Kumar gets caught up in a violent, criminal underworld through illegal wrestling matches. Raveena Tandon provides a very important emotional anchor throughout this chaotic film. The chemistry between these two actors is not based so much on romantic themes as it is based on the tension and drama created by all of the action happening around them; however, the chemistry works very well because of how they both naturally fit together on-screen, even in high-energy, high-stakes situations! 

Keemat (1998) 

By this time in their career, both actors were stretching their talents into more action-based ensemble movies. Keemat features Akshay and Raveena in a film that has a story about friendship, redemption, and survival. Although the movie did not perform very well overall at the box office, the pairing of the two stars helps to give the audience, who have seen them together for many years, a sense of familiarity and comfort. Their chemistry has matured considerably due to their years of working together. 

Barood (1998) 

Barood is one of the grittiest, darkest action dramas highlighting the themes of crime, justice, and revenge. In this story, Akshay Kumar plays a character that is trapped in a vicious cycle of violence and corruption, while the character of Raveena Tandon provides much-needed grounding to the emotional aspects of the story. The chemistry between the two stars has changed somewhat from previous movies; rather than the flashy glamour or sensual moments, there is now more emotional depth. Their chemistry has evolved to become something much deeper and meaningful than just music videos. 

Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon’s journey reflects one of Bollywood’s most defining 90s pairings. Their reunion in Welcome to the Jungle is a solid casting call. But for some of us, it’s also nostalgia returning to the big screen.
