Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’ teaser unveiled in LA 

Something HUGE is coming! It’s not just your normal Bollywood release – when Ranbir Kapoor’s first look as Lord Ram was presented at an IMAX theatre, it didn’t just stay in that room. Within hours of the initial showing, social media was flooded with reactions, and a well-read myth with elaborate styling suddenly feels real. 

Nitesh Tiwari is directing one of the biggest films in the history of Indian cinema, and, judging by the initial reactions, they may very well have something KING-SIZED on their hands. 

A global launch, not just a Bollywood teaser 

Instead of launching it in the usual way in Mumbai for their first reveal, the team picked Los Angeles, and that says a lot. The audience at the IMAX ‘saw’ the teaser when it was dropped and gave it a terrific response, calling it visually outstanding and well worth the wait. 

The teaser drop was an announcement that it would be presented before a global audience, and it was loaded with expectations. Ranbir Kapoor also spoke of his role as the ideal man by calling him “Maryada Purushottam,” which will put emphasis on portraying the character of God first.

The total amount of money being spent on the film or the first and second parts will be over Rs 4000 crores, therefore making it one of India’s most expensive films in history. The film has the backing of Prime Focus Studios and the visual effects company DNEG (Double Negative), which is known for producing high-quality effects for films around the world. 

Release date: When is it coming? 

Mark your calendars, this is being positioned as a festive blockbuster. Ramayana Part 1 is scheduled to be released for the festival of Diwali in 2026. The second part of the movie will follow approximately one year later in 2027. The first teaser is scheduled to be released to the public on April 2, 2023, adding to the buzz. 

Why this film feels different 

Bollywood has created many mythological dramas, but this movie is significantly different for several reasons. First, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari spent an extended period researching the epic to accurately create the characters and context of the story while creating an epic experience. 

Second, he has collaborated with renowned composers Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman to create an original score that blends traditional Indian instruments with Western music to provide a global audio experience for the content. 

Lastly, this movie isn’t just marketed as an Indian Film; this is going to be marketed as an annual Global Film Festival Event. 

The early verdict 

While it is still early to say, the positive response in Los Angeles so far (as evidenced by some articles) indicates that Ramayana has piqued the interest of many and that there is a high level of curiosity surrounding the film. Curiosity is an important commodity when producing content during a time when there is constant competition for viewers. 

For now, mark your calendars for April 2nd. If the teaser lives up to the hype, then Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana will not only redefine the way epic movies are made but will also establish the bar for Bollywood films.
