Goosebumps guaranteed! Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji trailer roars with power

The trailer of Raja Shivaji didn’t just arrive; it announced itself. Grand, emotional, and soaked in pride, this is the kind of historical spectacle that aims straight for the heart before it even tries to impress your eyes.

The first frame of the trailer clearly indicates how grand everything is going to be ahead. You can see how vast battlefields, larger-than-life forts, and sweeping aerial shots are, thanks to cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s creativity. The story seems like it looks heavily into the journey of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, being a warrior who stood up against empires and built Swarajya!

But the biggest strength of the trailer? Without a doubt, Riteish Deshmukh.

Not only does he portray Shivaji Maharaj – he embodies him. His eyes are filled with a quiet intensity, and there is a controlled ferocity to his movements, while giving a true authenticity to his Marathi dialogue that just weighs the words down. He absolutely owns the screen whenever he delivers powerful war cries or soft and emotional moments while showing remarkable conviction. This is easily one of the most transformative performances he has made in his career!

The dialogues themselves deserve a mention; they’re sharp and incorporate a sense of Marathi pride into them. You can already sense the kind of lines that will echo in theatres after they hear them during the epic battle sequences.

Musically, it also adds a great deal of value; Ajay Atul’s score is nothing short of epic. The music elevates almost every scene, particularly the war montages and emotional scenes. It doesn’t just support the visuals; it enhances them.

Coming to the ensemble cast, the film is stacked. Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of Afzal Khan is both terrifying and powerful. He brings a very real feeling of menace whenever he’s on-screen. Genelia Deshmukh’s performance as Saibai gives her charm and softness, which ground the emotional side of the film. Veteran actors such as Mahesh Manjrekar and Sachin Khedekar lend a level of depth and credibility to the narrative.

Bhagyashree’s performance as Jijabai is strong yet dignified, exactly what the role demands. Others like Fardeen Khan and Amole Gupte help strengthen and contribute to the overall expansion of the film’s universe. Vidya Balan, on the other hand, brings out the best part of her performance, her expressions. Even with the little glimpse in the trailer, her contribution as Badi Begum already looks exciting.

However, not everything lands perfectly. Abhishek Bachchan’s screen presence, despite having a strong presence, is slightly out of place in this cohesive production. His physicality and dialogue delivery don’t match up with the tone of the film at all, making him more observable than any of the other cast members. In a trailer where most of the performances flow well with their environment, his casting comes across as a bit of a mismatch.

That said, the film’s costume design and production detailing are worthy of great praise. The outfits, from royal attire to battle armour, look meticulously crafted, without appearing to be overly theatrical. Each frame appears to be carefully and thoughtfully designed to transport you back in time.

Overall, the trailer for Raja Shivaji appears to be more than just a historical retelling but also an emotional tribute. If the film delivers what the trailer promises, this could be something truly special.
