Mother’s Day special: If Bollywood moms had Instagram bios, they’d be pure entertainment

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who fear the judgment of everyone/everything, and those who are terrified of the judgment from a Bollywood mother while she silently adjusts her pallu before presenting an extremely emotional monologue. Hindi film moms have been capable of detecting the pain of heartbreak from more than three rooms away, surviving impossible tragedy with perfect eyeliner, and making guilt feel like a competitive sport.

With today’s social media era, if these Bollywood mother icons were living among us now, would they post cryptic captions? Passively-aggressively title family quotes? Way too many fold-hands emojis? Absolutely. This Mother’s Day, instead of boring you with ‘5 best Mother’s Day films to watch’, we have curated a list of what Bollywood mothers would probably write in their Instagram bios, and honestly, some of them already sound dangerously close to your family WhatsApp group.

Nirupa Roy (The original Bollywood maa)

Bio:
“Professional sufferer.
Raising heroes since 1953.
Lost one son in mela. Found another in climax.”

No one else in Bollywood has ever carried as much emotional damage as Nirupa Roy. If she had an Instagram, it would be comprised only of black and white flashbacks, blurry images of temples, and quotes about sacrifice that she would post at exactly 6:12 am each day, with comments disabled after relatives argue over things they disagreed.

Rakhee (Karan Arjun)

Bio:
“Mere Karan Arjun aayenge.
Manifestation coach
Believer. Mother. Visionary.”

Rakhee’s bio would sound like that of every other spiritual influencer to ever come out. She would have a ton of videos where she posted YouTube videos and made everybody cry in thirty seconds or less by playing overly dramatic music in the background.

Reema Lagoo (Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!)

Bio:
“Cool mom, before it was trendy
Snacks and emotions both ready.
Probably planning your wedding.”

Reema Lagoo was the standard of warmth in the Bollywood world of mothers. If Reema kept her own Instagram profile, it would have all been clean and happy-looking, with tons of family group pics (so many that it was questionable) during holiday seasons, and long emotional captions that could have been essay-sized user manuals. She would, without a doubt, put far too many heart emojis!

Kirron Kher (Dostana)

Bio:
“Loud. Loving. Slightly dramatic.
Future saas of your nightmares.
Punjabi energy only.”

Kirron Kher has never been one for subtlety when it comes to summoning the Bollywood mom within her, and her presence on social media will be no different. Expect to see her share random dance videos, insanely filtered funny photos, and sometimes she may even go live without realizing it, revealing to the world her family’s secrets that nobody wanted to hear.

Farida Jalal (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge)

Bio:
“Silent observer of family chaos.
Emotionally available.
Team ‘Ja Simran Ja’ forever”

Farida Jalal has mastered the art of making it look like she is providing emotional support, while hiding generations’ worth of family dysfunction in her very knowing eyes. Her Instagram account would exude a nice, comforting middle-class mom energy, with posts reflecting her spirituality, recipes that will have you measuring by the dozens, and the most brilliant and sage-like comments on others’ pictures.

Ratna Pathak Shah (Khoobsurat)

Bio:
“Not strict. Just correct.
Discipline > nonsense.
Minimalist queen.”

Ratna Pathak Shah would have an Instagram account that had the most visually intimidating aesthetic. Neutral-toned feeds, intelligent captions, and absolutely no unnecessary emojis, this is the type of account that will make you straighten up when scrolling through.

Jaya Bachchan (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…)

Bio:
“Mother’s intuition > WiFi signals.
Can sense emotional distress instantly.
#NoPaparazzi”

Jaya Bachchan has such a strong ‘mother’ gaze that she should have a verified page on Instagram. Although she would probably have zero posts, zero followers, and one really intense profile picture, yet somehow still terrify everyone.

Shefali Shah (Dil Dhadakne Do)

Bio:
“Emotionally exhausted but still functioning.
Holding this family together since forever.”

She’s really the only one to represent the modern Bollywood mother with so many layers, thanks to her performance in Dil Dhadakne Do. Her bio would be painfully familiar to the millions of exhausted mothers who have had to carry emotional work and stress for everyone in their family, while still dealing with the chaos everyone else has created around them.

Neena Gupta (Badhaai Ho)

Bio:
“Motherhood. Menopause. Main character energy.
Still cooler than your favourites.”

Neena Gupta is the new-age Bollywood mother. She’s everything that you aspire to be as a female: smart, self-aware, fashionable, and totally unbothered by the traditional expectations of women. Her Instagram would be an amazing combination of elegance, sarcasm, and brutal honesty (with a sprinkling of humour) as she teaches us all how to live the best lives we can possibly create.
