Cannes 2026 is getting a lot of attention globally for all the right reasons. While this edition will bring back a lot of known faces, this time, it also proves that India is making a powerful statement on the international stage with multiple entries. The number of Indian participants at this year’s event has changed dramatically over the years. More than just the traditional Bollywood stars and directors, there will be a number of up-and-coming stars that reflect India’s expanding global reach through cinema.
Indian celebrities attending Cannes 2026
Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt, who debuted at Cannes earlier, is one of the previous attendees of the festival and is once again coming back. Also attending the festival will be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, whose association with the festival spans over two decades and is one of India’s most recognizable faces on the red carpet.
Filmmaker Karan Johar is also part of the delegation and will help represent Indian film to the rest of the world, particularly with projects that continue to travel globally. There is also a good chance that acclaimed Indian film director Madhur Bhandarkar will accompany Karan Johar to assist in enhancing the representation of established Indian storytellers.
Bollywood actress Tara Sutaria is also all set to make her Cannes red carpet debut this year, ahead of the release of her film Toxic later this year. If reports are to be believed, actor Jacqueliene Fernandez is also set to make her much anticipated return to the Cannes Film Festival 2026. Other prominent Indian film representatives include Ashutosh Gowariker, a master of large-scale cinematic vision, as well as Punjabi star Ammy Virk, expanding the growing representation of regional film at Cannes.
Another one on the list is Television and film actress Mouni Roy, who will also grace the red carpet, solidifying the connection between television, film, and digital media. The Gujarati film industry is also represented at Cannes by Manasi Parekh, the National Award-winning actress who is representing Gujarati cinema and the diversity of Indian storytelling outside of mainstream Hindi films.
Veteran Marathi stars Nivedita Saraf and Ashok Saraf will also be present, along with Prajakta Mali and producer Kedar Joshi. They are set to appear on the Cannes red carpet in traditional Marathi attire.
The Indian presence at Cannes 2026 is not limited to Bollywood alone, but regional cinema continues to gain international traction from Punjabi, Marathi, and Gujarati actors and filmmakers alike who will be attending Cannes. Therefore, it can be inferred that there is an evolutionary process happening within Indian film, as it changes from being primarily a domestic industry into a more inclusive global industry.
Alongside Indian celebrities at Cannes 2026, there will also be many well-known international celebrities from Hollywood, which will continue to add to the festival’s glamour and prestige.
For the uninitiated, the 79th edition of the annual Cannes International Film Festival is all set to kick off on May 12 at Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in the French Riviera.
