Haiwaan trailer review: Akshay Kumar goes wild; Saif Ali Khan plays smart in this dark game of hunter vs hunted 

Having spent many years working together in lighter and more lighthearted work, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan will reunite for a project where nothing resembles a friendly reunion. The trailer of the film ‘Haiwaan’ suggests that it is going to be a tale full of tension and psychological twists, and it will showcase Akshay Kumar at his most insane, as well as Saif Ali Khan, demonstrating remarkable intensity of playfulness that distinguishes his character from first appearances.  

In less than a few seconds, the trailer sets up the atmosphere. It is full of murders, an enigmatic ominous threat, and a general atmosphere of danger and intimidation. The film revolves around Saif Ali Khan’s character who, although being blind, lives quite an ordinary life while taking care of a little girl, is engaged in a criminal pursuit after having met trouble caused by Akshay Kumar’s character. What is engaging about Akshay is his transformation as an actor accustomed to heroic or comic parts, he seems almost alarming. His character seems icy and ruthless while being somewhat primal, which might be what the film’s title suggests. His eyes betray a craziness, while the trailer shows that Akshay is not a conventional villain, as he seems to relish the game itself. 

Saif seems to take the reverse approach, as his performance is relaxed, calm and incisive. The important fact that his character is blind introduces some intrigue into the conflict. It seems one of the prominent themes of the trailer is that blindness can be less dangerous than stupidity.  

The biggest advantage of the trailer is the confrontation of the two stars, Akshay and Saif. The differences in their energies are intriguing. Priyadarshan, who has worked with Akshay on a number of occasions, seems to have led Akshay into dark territory, which might make Haiwaan the greatest surprise in Akshay’s career. 

Naturally, the trailer plays with classic thriller clichés, and the film will require more than a terrifying antagonist and a thrilling chase to keep its mystery alive. Nevertheless, Haiwaan really makes a great first impression. The mood is right, the tone is ominous, and you can’t wait to discover who will outplay the other. 

If the movie meets the high expectations raised in the trailer, Haiwaan might provide the audience with something they haven’t seen from Akshay and Saif in years, the two actors getting out of their shell and into a perilous game.
