Queen  

The film, “Queen” which is directed by Vikas Bahl, stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role who follows the journey of Rani, a young woman from Delhi, who decides to go on her honeymoon alone after her wedding is called off. Through her solo travels in Europe, Rani discovers her independence, strength, and self-worth, ultimately empowering herself to live life on her own terms. 

Darlings 

Directed by Jasmeet K. Reen, “Darlings” features Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah in pivotal roles. The film is a dark comedy that revolves around the lives of two women navigating their way through the challenges of life in Mumbai. As they grapple with personal and professional struggles, “Darlings” offers a humorous yet poignant portrayal of female resilience and empowerment. 

Margherita With a Straw  

“Margherita With a Straw” stars Kalki Koechlin as Laila, a young woman with cerebral palsy who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and sexual awakening. The film challenges societal norms and stereotypes as Laila explores her desires and relationships, ultimately embracing her identity and pursuing her dreams with determination and courage. This film is beautifully directed by directed by Shonali Bose.  

Lipstick Under My Burkha 

“Lipstick Under My Burkha” which is directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, explores the secret lives and desires of four women from different backgrounds in a small town in India. Through their struggles for freedom and expression in a conservative society, the film sheds light on issues such as sexuality, gender roles, and women’s rights, challenging societal norms and empowering its characters to embrace their true selves. 

English Vinglish 

“English Vinglish” stars Sridevi in the lead role. The film tells the story of Shashi, a middle-aged woman who enrolls in an English language course to gain respect from her family. As Shashi navigates her journey of self-discovery and empowerment, the film that is directed by women itself, namely ‘Gauri Shinde’, celebrates the importance of self-worth, personal growth, and the ability to overcome societal expectations. 

Piku  

Shoojit Sircar, a three times National film award winner, directed this film, “Piku” features Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Irrfan Khan in prominent roles. The film revolves around the relationship between Piku, a fiercely independent young woman, and her eccentric father. It beautifully portrays the challenges faced by modern Indian women in balancing personal and professional lives while also breaking societal stereotypes.
